Okay, Its time!

We have had two months full of up and downs. December 19th was the first deadline for CHP. Brian finished his application process in early December, except for two things that the CHP had concerns with. He was asked to get a stress test to make sure he could withstand the pace of the academy. The test was arranged and taken care of quickly with good results. The other concern was with his vision. After 6 months of working with 3 different doctors Brian still was not corrected to 20/20 vision in both eyes. So as December 19th came closer Brian had gone to a 4th eye doctor as well as the 3rd which meant he had two chances of getting contacts where he needed to be. December 19th hit and he had one of the two pairs of contacts, and the one did not make him 20/20. So a call was made to CHP and they granted him an extension to Jan. 2nd to have his vision corrected. Jan. 2nd he got the contacts from doctor #4 and they were off putting him at 20/25 and 20/22 which is still not 20/20. When he called CHP with this devastating news, they granted him another extension and told him to call when his vision is corrected. He went back to Dr. #4 and he had a new deadline of Jan. 31st, the Air Force needed a commitment from him one way or the other. On Jan. 31st he got back in with Dr. #4 and would you know it he was 20/20 in both eyes, on the second attempt! Of course this created a dilemma for us. Instead of being able to say that he didn’t get there in time we had to decide what we need to do. The January academy had already started and the next class is not until April. Being that his enlistment is up February 21st, April is a little ways off. So do we separate from the military, which means moving into the civilian world and losing Brian’s guaranteed paycheck for a minimum of 3 months... or do we re-enlist and stick with the security and stability of this place that we are at. Well as it comes down to it, CHP may or may not put him into the academy in April, they would not have to tell him until late March if he had a slot and how can we walk from everything we have on the hope of CHP working out. And even more if he did get a spot a simple injury during any point in the process could cost him the job. We may or may not be making the right decision but at this moment it feels like it is the best option. WE are looking forward to the possibility of being able to move before too long and maybe even to another country for a few years. It would be hard to be away from family and friends but it would be great to experience another culture. For the mean time I have a contract in the works that should be in effect but the first of March to do portrait photography on base. It will be a very great opportunity, low risk (relatively speaking), to see if and how well I can do. So we have much to look forward to.
